2010 Conference
Peoria - On Wednesday, September 22, the Public Relations Association of Central Illinois
(PRA) will host its 2010 Conference. The conference is 9:00am - 3:00pm at the Par-A-Dice
Hotel, 21 Blackjack Blvd, East Peoria. This year’s conference will feature keynote speaker Peter
Shankman, who is recognized worldwide for radically new ways of thinking about social media,
public relations, marketing, advertising, and customer service. Shankman is the founder of Help
A Reporter Out, (HARO) which connects thousands of journalists to sources. He is the founder
and CEO of The Geek Factory, Inc., a boutique marketing and PR strategy firm located in New
York City and author of Can We Do That?! Outrageous PR Stunts That Work and Why Your
Company Needs Them.
The PRA 2010 Conference will include a continental breakfast, workshops, lunch, vendors, and
networking opportunities for public relations, marketing, communications, and business
professionals. Breakout session workshops will include a variety of topics from measuring
success, budgeting, small business topics, media relationships, and communication. Attendees
will be able to choose from nine breakout session topics, along with the keynote presentation.
The cost to attend the all-day conference is $75 for PRA members, $95 for non-members, and
$40 for students. Anyone interested in joining PRA to receive the reduced conference rate may
join at any time. The cost of membership is $45.
PRA is an organization of public relations and marketing communication professionals from
Central Illinois. PRA offers monthly presentations (September through May) by top
professionals in their fields who share the latest information on ways to move public relations
confidently into the 21st century.

PRA Awards Presentation at April PRA Meeting

The Public Relations Association of Central Illinois (PRA) will have its next meeting on Wednesday, April 21, 2009 at Barrack’s Cater Inn in Peoria, IL from 11:45 a.m-1 p.m. Cost is $17 for members or $22 for non-members.

The meeting will feature the presentation of the annual PRA awards. This year’s awards categories include, the Pat Landen Award, the Gold Star Media Award, Internal Campaign Award, Shoestring Campaign, Stand Alone Piece and a Better World Award.

Keeping Morale Up When the News is Bad at March PRA Meeting

The Public Relations Association of Central Illinois (PRA) will have its next meeting on Wednesday, March 17, 2010 at Barrack’s Cater Inn in Peoria, IL from 11:45 a.m-1 p.m. Cost is $17 for members or $22 for non-members.

Rusty Dunn, Mayor of Pekin and Chief Corporate Spokesman for Caterpillar Inc, will speak about communicating to internal audiences during times of bad news.

Building a Plan to Build the Block at February Meeting

The Public Relations Association of Central Illinois (PRA) will have its next meeting on Wednesday, February 17, 2010 at Barrack’s Cater Inn in Peoria, IL from 11:45 a.m-1 p.m.  Cost is $17 for members or $22 for non-members.

Convincing Peoria County voters to pass a referendum to build a regional museum in the midst of one the country’s worst economic downturns took some doing. Most importantly, it took a lot of passionate people in the community working from a plan. At the February meeting, Simantel will share their insights and their strategic approach in helping to bring the Peoria Riverfront Museum one step closer to reality.
