In January PRA will have roundtable discussions on current public relations topics. The topics will be: Non-Traditional Media, Getting Your Foot in the PR Door, Ethical Issues in PR, Better Pitching of Story Ideas and Trends in Fundraising. The topic is “Customer Service and Public Relations” and will feature speaker Celeste Mathesen, Director of Communications for Catholic Charities of Diocese of Peoria. Mathesen will share how public relations professionals can use set service standards adopted from the Walt Disney Institue to ensure companies are delivering to the best of their ability. Walt Disney’s approach to service can be used as an excellent benchmarking tool for quality improvement.

The topic “Creative Ways to Promote Within Our Community” will feature speaker Eric Brinker, the former Director of Brand Management and Customer Experience with JetBlue Airways and current owner of the Metro Centre in Peoria. Brinker will offer his insight on the many ways to promote within the community.

The topic “Social Marketing and Blogging” will feature speaker Michael Thurwanger, Ph.D who is currently the Director of the Reagan Leadership Program at Eureka College. Dr. Thurwanger will offer guidelines to help people successfully navigate the increasingly important and rapidly changing environment of social marketing as a way to forge new interactive relationships.
